SYNOPSIS
Mohammed, a young Palestinian, embarks on a tense journey to cross an Israeli checkpoint with a temporary Polish residence card. After being turned down by other drivers, Farouk, a well-meaning taxi driver, offers him a ride. However, they soon encounter severe trouble when Israeli soldiers discover Mohammed’s previous failed attempt to cross. The film powerfully captures the oppressive reality of life under occupation and the personal costs involved.

STATEMENT
An important statement regarding the short film ‘An Orange from Jaffa’
I wrote, directed the film and was co-produced by Studio Indeks. The Polish production company signed a co-production contract with a French producer named David Frenkel under the name of Synecdoche Company. I did not sign any contract with the French co-producer as I was working with the Polish company. This French co-producer is now trying to send the film to Israeli film festivals to whitewash the genocide going on in Gaza, using my name and my film, and is also trying to withdraw the film from pro-Palestinian film festivals. I ask all film festivals not to contact this person…

An Orange from Jaffa – A tension-filled drama that lays bare the harsh reality of Israeli checkpoints.
Mohammed Almughanni’s short drama film offers a glimpse into the harrowing realities faced by Palestinians at Israeli checkpoints. In this tightly-woven narrative, viewers are thrust into the tense confines of Farouk’s taxi, where the desperate urgency of Mohammed’s journey to reach his mother across the checkpoint unfolds with palpable intensity.
“An Orange from Jaffa”… Cinema of Small Details
A few kilometers away from Jerusalem, specifically at the Hizma military checkpoint, there was a special kind of tension, inseparable from the daily tension that has been ongoing for decades, due to the escalating apartheid policies of the Israeli occupation at the military checkpoints in the West Bank in general, and those separating it from…
His film may compete for an Oscar: Many people stand with Palestine, including large Jewish communities
I received a scholarship to make this film. However, I could not register a company because it was happening during the pandemic, so I gave the scholarship to the Indeks Film Studio, operating at the Łódź Film School. Indeks signed an unfavourable contract with a French co-producer, who not only made my work difficult, but…
“An Orange from Jaffa”… A cry against the “racism of the Israeli occupation”
Palestinian director Mohammed Almughanni confirmed that his short film “An Orange from Jaffa,” which was recently screened at the El Gouna Film Festival, showed an aspect of the racism that Palestinians are subjected to at the hands of the Israeli occupation forces, expressing his happiness with the reactions to the film. The film, which participated…
“An Orange from Jaffa” movie… a fruit that makes you make peace with the world
Israeli soldiers occupy the corners of the frame, a man looks around anxiously, searching for a taxi. “An Orange from Jaffa”… What the occupation spoils, an orange fixes
While the young Palestinian man from Poland was arguing with the old taxi driver after they were detained at an Israeli crossing, and while they were pouring water on each other and fighting like two children on a school bus, an Israeli soldier carrying some supplies and food stood there, looking at them from behind…
An orange from Jaffa on an ordinary Palestinian day
The film Orange from Jaffa by Palestinian director Mohammed Al-Mughni takes us deep into the daily life in Palestine with its precise details, where the reality is full of vulgarity, and presents a cinematic experience that highlights the overlap between the political, psychological and social context, as it paints a deep picture of the Palestinian…
Mohammed Almughanni: Director of “An Orange from Jaffa”
With an incredibly soft-spoken and kind demeanor, Mohammed Almughanni was a true pleasure to talk to. His films are powerful and consistently relevant, one of the many reasons I’m such a fan. “An Orange from Jaffa” gives a glimpse of a situation entirely foreign to me, yet I’m put right into the shoes of protagonist Mohammed. Almughanni’s…
